Instagram is a favourite social network and people actively use it everyday. Alongside, there are creators who deliver content to these many users. In fact, content creators have learned from meetings with Instagram representatives that their content strategies should include images, videos, stories, reels, and even lives. For example, Rachel Reichenbah saw the presentations on what Instagram would like people to follow. Thus, she posted a list of post formats and frequency recommended by representatives of the platform.

What to post on Instagram in 2023?

If you are wondering what to post on Instagram, here are some available options:

  • stories,

  • reels,

  • video posts under one minute,

  • posts longer than 1 minute for IGTV,

  • live streams

Instagram, reels, stories, organic reach, IGTV

As for reels, Instagram recommends creating 15-second clips with music or voice-over that are entertaining or informative. In particular, Instagram Reels are short vertical videos similar to TikTok videos and Youtube Shorts. According to Instagram, reels are meant to entertain the public through expressing creativity and promoting the brand. On the other hand, Instagram recommends stories showing your followers things behind the scenes. For example, you could show how you prepare something you publish on your feed, or how you end up creating it. What’s more, videos for IGTV should be composed of series dedicated to a specific topic relevant to you, or use them to tell in detail something of interest to your followers.

How often should I post on Instagram in 2023?

According to Instagram representatives, the algorithm will favour content creators who use all the features of the app and who post quality stuff. As for their number, their recommendations are as follows:

  • 3 posts per week in the feed, including the reels or IGTV type posts shared on the profile

  • 8-10 series of stories per week and at least two stories per day

  • 4 –7 reel posts per week

  • 1-3 IGTV clips per week, including Instagram Lives.

It's shocking, isn't it? Instagram expects you to dedicate a lot of time to content development. So you should get out of your comfort zone and learn to use all the tools in the app. This way, you will have a chance to grow your account and reach as many people as possible.

Is there an Instagram strategy for 2023 that will guarantee you success?

Actually, yes. And that would be investing in aligning your content with what Instagram wants from content creators. Of course we are talking about keeping people in the app as long as possible. In fact, Instagram doesn't want to see its users flee to TikTok because there are more interesting things there. If you manage to bring valuable content on Instagram, the platform will reward you.

Reels is this new tool within Instagram, intended to become a competitor to TikTok. Right now, this type of content is a shortcut to success. In particular, Reels content is also the reason why many people's engagement dropped in the fall. This happened because the impact of Reels on the Instagram algorithm is higher during this period. Once the tool is no longer so new, its impact will most likely return to normal. Therefore, Reels need to be part of your Instagram strategy in 2023 because this type of content can help you grow your organic reach more than you’ve ever imagined.

In fact, Instagram isn’t the platform to value exactly nor equally the reels and photos. Specifically, there are two separate “algorithms” for determining reach. In a nutshell, the more you post, the more visible you are. Also, bear in mind that your content should be branded, engaging, and above all not spam. Nobody likes spammers because at the end of the day everyone loves honesty and interest.
