Landscape diversity

Abruzzo offers a variety of breathtaking landscapes, ranging from the beaches of the Adriatic to the peaks of the Apennines, through national parks and nature reserves.

The region is rich in medieval villages and historic centres, offering an immersion in local culture and traditions, local products and genuine flavors, with a wide choice of restaurants and wineries.

A fact emerges from all: 1 Italian out of 2 would move to Abruzzo, attracted by a balance that today seems to have become a luxury.

Tourism as a gateway

It’s not just a question of residence, 92% of Italians have already visited or would like to do so, and 9 out of 10 describe it as an attractive and stimulating destination. The beauty here is not postcard, it’s tangible:

Villages rich in history: places like Santo Stefano di Sessanio and Scanno are more than tourist destinations, they are living memories.

Food and wine culture: wine, arrosticini, saffron. The cuisine of Abruzzo is a tale of identity. The wine tours here are a draw for tourism. In particular in the area of Chieti where Montepulciano wine is produced.

Lakes and natural springs: The natural beauty of Abruzzo is unmatched in any other area of Italy. Its seven lakes are beautiful and in the surroundings there are places to sleep, especially at Bomba Lake. Delicious are also the lakes of Scanno (heart-shaped) and Barrea, surrounded by mountains and reachable along scenic hairpin bends. The WWF Oasi Sorgenti del Pescara in the municipality of Popoli is among the most beautiful places to go in summer.

Great ski and trekking destinations: The mountains of Abruzzo are a great winter tourist attraction, especially the towns of Roccaraso, Castel di Sangro, Ovindoli and Campo Felice, thanks to the heavy snowfalls that occur every year. And its Plateau of Cinquemiglia has nothing to envy the alpine landscapes of northern Italy and skiing costs much less. A third of the region is made up of national parks so even in summer there are many things to do, mainly concentrated in the Majella National Park and the Abruzzo National Walking Park.

The coast of Trabocchi

70 kilometers of coast from Ortona to San Salvo are now a UNESCO Heritage Site and are characterized by what were the fishermen’s huts or the overflows ( Trabocchi or Trabucchi). They were built to fish off the coast. Today many still belong to the families of those fishermen, but they have been transformed into delightful clubs and restaurants. And the gastronomy of Abruzzo returns to the forefront.

Only at the fourth port there are the beautiful beaches of Abruzzo, the long seas have received the Blue Flag for uncontaminated waters, especially in the provinces of Chieti and Teramo. Among the recommended destinations are Ortona with its Aragonese Castle rich in history and monuments dedicated to the Second World War, Pineto and Vasto.

University opportunities and Erasmus for students

In addition to all forms of tourism, many students abroad can find in this region an important cultural vitality, a balanced and healthy lifestyle:

Quiet and human-friendly environment: Abruzzo, with cities such as L'Aquila and Teramo, offers an Erasmus experience in a more collected and less hectic context than the large metropolises, ideal to focus on study and live a more authentic experience of Italian life.

In summary, the Abruzzo in 2025 presents itself as a complete destination, able to meet the needs of different types of travelers, offering unique and authentic experiences in a natural and cultural context of great value.
