Mallorca is the largest Balearic island, belonging to Spain. The capital of this island is Palma. It’s a place where it is warm almost all the time. However, the tourist season lasts from May to the end of October, the most intensive months are from June to September. So if you want to visit the island when there are few people, you should be aware of that.

How to travel to Mallorca

As a part of Spain, EU citizens can travel to Mallorca with their national ID cards, while non-EU travelers require a valid passport. Don’t forget to obtain the appropriate visa if required. Mallorca also uses the Euro as its currency. Credit cards are widely accepted, but it’s a good idea to carry some cash too. Of course, the official language is Spanish, but you can find there widely-spoken English as well, especially in tourist areas.

Accommodation in Mallorca

When you are looking for accommodation in Mallorca, it is important to align your choice with your travel goals and preferences. Whether you’re seeking luxury, authenticity, or a budget-friendly stay, Mallorca’s diverse lodging options ensure you will find the perfect place.

Available accommodation options

For example, you can find all-inclusive resorts and hotels, smaller places like Mallorca’s boutique hotels, and guesthouses. Also, there are Airbnbs with carefully curated interiors and attention to detail. Not to mention that you can rent a holiday villa with your friends or family. There are some camping places too.

When to book your accommodation

All these options are available, but if you are selecting your accommodation in Mallorca, it’s essential to plan ahead, especially during peak tourist seasons. For this reason, you should read reviews before making a reservation and check amenities to consider what facility is the most important for you (Wi-Fi, spa, pool, or fitness center)

Where to stay based on criteria

Mallorca’s diverse regions offer distinct experiences. If you are interested in nightlife and a very atmosphere, you should definitely stay in Palma. For more picturesque places I would like to recommend Valldemossa, Deia or Soller. Beach enthusiasts may prefer coastal areas like Alcudia, Playa de Palma or Cala d’Or.

Expensive and cheap places to stay in Mallorca

It’s better to know that the most exclusive and expensive areas are Palma de Mallorca, Puerto Portals, and Puerto Andratx. Whereas the most affordable areas are Alcudia, Cala Millor, and Can Picafort. The most recommended areas to live in are Palma de Mallorca, Palma Nova, Soller.

No matter where you stay, you will create unforgettable memories on this stunning Mediterranean island anyway.

What is the best way to move around in Mallorca?

There is an airport in Mallorca, so you can fly directly to the island. Then, you can travel on the island by car, but it is not the only way! You can also rent a bike for 20 – 50 euros per day. There are about 20 beautiful bicycle routes there and it’s much cheaper than a car or a motorcycle.

How to get around in Mallorca

Not only does Mallorca have good roads, but also there is well-developed public transport. So if you don’t want to rent a car or take a taxi, you can use other means of transport, which are buses, metros, trains, and trams. The best mode of transportation for you will depend only on your own preferences, budget, and the areas you want to visit.

Public transport and tickets

What is important is that this island is divided into four zones and the price of the ticket is up to the distance and destination. Public transport is based on identical tickets for both buses and trains. Therefore, it depends on what you want to visit and what your preferences are.

Activities in Mallorca

Mallorca offers a wide range of attractions, so plan your itinerary accordingly.

1. Sightseeing

Don’t miss the charming capital city, Palma de Mallorca, with its stunning cathedral, historic Old Town, and lively markets. Mallorca is also known for being surrounded by crystal blue water beaches. If you prefer to spend your time on the beach and just capture the sun, water breeze, and the view, you would love:

● Playa de Muro

This sand stretches for 8 km. Everything is there, parking, WC, showers, restaurants and bars, and also lifeguards.

● Calo des Moro

It’s the most popular rocky beach on Instagram. There are beautiful views and crystal water. I can recommend this place for grown-ups. There is no toilet or showers, any restaurant or rescuer.

● Cala Agulla

Sandy Beach is just great for family, and everyone who loves water sports. Cala Agualla has been awarded a blue flag, so visitors can be sure that they will be able to enjoy the view and clean the beach in peace.

● Cala Fornells

It is a sandy rocky beach, where you can find showers, bars, parking, and rescuers. You can also find some shade there because the place is very sheltered by trees and bushes.

Customs and Traditions in Mallorca

Mallorca, being a part of Spain with its own unique cultural identity, has several distinctive customs and traditions that reflect its rich history. There are three notable customs in Mallorca:

1. Correfoc – Fire run

The “Correfoc '' means “fire-runs”, happening during the Sant Joan festival on June 24th, or other local fiestas such as the patron’s day of Palma on January 20th. A group of people are dressed as devils, they light up fireworks which are mounted on devil’s pitchforks or suspended above the route. Then they are dancing to the sounds of rhythmic percussion running through the streets and creating remarkable shows. Correfoc symbolizes the fight between good and evil and has a strong community spirit. As a spectator, you can join in or watch from a safe distance.
