Why Trustpilot Reviews Matter: Building Credibility and Trust in the Digital Age

Author: Chiara Veri

Introduction

In the world we live in, which is considered a digital world, trust has become the most valuable asset. Today's consumers increasingly rely extensively on reviews  found online before choosing any product, booking a service or before trusting a particular brand. There are several review platforms, and Trustpilot stands out from the others in terms of respect and influence. In addition, having a good reputation in reviews can enable greater business growth.

What Is Trustpilot?

Trustpilot was founded in Denmark in 2007 and is a review platform visible to all that allows customers to publicly share their negative positive experiences be it with various companies. In addition, Trustpilot ensures transparency and fairness by displaying all verified reviews, and with millions of users worldwide, it has become a benchmark application for reliable customer feedback.

The Power of Online Reviews in Consumer Decision-Making

Before buying a product or service, we often rely on online reviews that greatly influence our decisions. A recent study shows that 95-99% of consumers read reviews found online before buying something, and about 93% say they are influenced by reviews read online. What's more, nearly 49% of consumers trust reviews found online, as well as trust the advice given by family or friends, so much so that for the youngest demographic, (Generation Z and Millennials), the level of trust reaches 91%.

A very relevant figure taken from the BrightLocal 2025 survey shows that only 4% of consumers say they never read reviews, which makes it clear how important it is for companies to have optimal management of reviews.

What Makes Trustpilot Stand Out?

The main features of Trustpilot include a public and open system where anyone can leave a review, resulting in more authentic and varied feedback. In addition, reviews are always verified, and there are several integrations and widgets that allow companies to display customer opinions on their website and marketing channels.

Trustpilot also always and actively applies anti-fraud checks to ensure authenticity and impartiality, so as to improve and increase trust in both reviewers and readers.

How Trustpilot Builds Trust for Businesses

Social Proof and Credibility

Showing authentic customer reviews allows for an important and powerful social validation tool: the moment a potential customer sees authentic feedback, trust toward that specific brand increases, allowing the consumer to have greater certainty.

Boost to Conversion Rates and Loyalty

The great influence on purchase generated by Trustpilot is widely documented, as reviews from verified buyers can increase purchases by 15-20%. For more expensive items, on the other hand, we are talking about an increase of up to 38% over cheaper items. In addition, customers who feel listened to and appreciated will most likely buy that product or from that company again, thus increasing the lifecycle value.

Using Trustpilot Strategically

In order to collect consistent and effective reviews, it is important to solicit customer feedback immediately after delivery or service, but it is also very relevant to simplify the process in order to maximize participation.

According to 2025 verified data, 77% of consumers are more likely to leave a review if asked, which is precisely why more than 80% of companies actually solicit customers to do so in order to further motivate them.

Responding to Negative Feedback Professionally

With regard to negative reviews, they should not be seen as a hindrance, but rather as a real opportunity, as they allow for clear recognition of problems and their resolution, but they also allow for an apology and show willingness to improve in an effective and constructive way.

Consumers often respond very positively to this communicative transparency; in fact, 88% trust written reviews more than mere ratings, and 71% are more likely to approach a company that shows interest in reviews.

Showcasing Reviews Across Channels

Another key point is definitely to make the reviews visible on all touchpoints of the business extension, such as on the homepage of the company website, or on the thank-you pages, but it turns on social or digital advertisements, this is because interjecting Trustpilot feedback constantly reinforces the trustworthiness of your business.

Success Stories (with General Stats)

We can cite some results commonly found by companies, such as a 20-25% increase in purchases after incorporating Trustpilot into main pages. Also, up to 40% increase in clicks due to Trustpilot badges appearing in various ads.

Fresh Insights from 2025 Review Data (BrightLocal)

According to the BrightLocal 2025 survey, consumers increasingly use multiple platforms to inform themselves: 74% consult at least two, 34% three or more. Beyond that, Google still remains the main source, but at the same time Instagram (31%) and TikTok (20%) are growing. In addition, 76% decide to watch videos to choose a local business and 73% trust only recent reviews, written in the last month, for example.

However, the most credible reviews always remain those that are more detailed, honest, transparent, and with visual content: 88% of users prefer to read complete and well-explained texts rather than referring to simple star ratings.

Conclusion

In conclusion of all the considerations so far, we can see that reviews on Trustpilot are not just feedback, but rather enhance credibility. In fact, companies that strategically advertise and promote themselves through customer reviews gain important advantages in terms of reputation and loyalty.

In the digital age in which we live, earning trust is an indispensable and non-replaceable goal.  Because of this, it is very important to make good use of Trustpilot and platforms that promote the authentic voice of customers.
